Kyrgios out with injury, Celebs hate on Wimbledon and Fed to be honoured

Hey hey, the daily serve here again. We’re the daily tennis newsletter that just like strawberries and cream, is fresh and sweet, leaving you wanting more.
Today, here’s what we’ve got for you:
Kyrgios is out 🚑️
Celebs hate on Wimbledon 👀 ☠️
Fed to be honoured 🙌👏🫶
Kyrgios is out 👋
Nick Kyrgios withdrew from this year’s Championship before any ball was hit. The talented Aussie and last year’s finalist was forced to pull-out on the eve of the tournament due to a wrist injury he picked up during his comeback.
Things were sounding promising for Kyrgios on the lead up to the tournament, with him sharing that he’d been practicing well with several “really good players” and feeling good about his SW19 return.
Kyrgios has been out all season recovering from knee surgery at the start of the year. Ahead of the Championship, he had lost his first and only grass court match in Stuttgart this year, 7-5, 6-3 to China’s Wibing Yu.
Love or hate the guy, we feel for him as he can’t seem to catch a break. Last year he showed everyone what he was capable of with a new mindset and determination. We hope he returns soon, for him, for the crowds and for tennis in general. 🙏🤞👊
Sorry to hear your news @NickKyrgios - wishing you a swift recovery and hope to see you back on our courts next year 🙏

Celebs hate on Wimbledon 👀 ☠️
Richard Curtis, Emma Thompson and Deborah Meaden are among celebrities who have called on Wimbledon to end its new partnership with Barclays over the bank’s multibillion-pound support for fossil fuel projects.
As the Championships get under way on Monday, the group claims the sponsorship deal, reportedly worth at least £20m a year, is damaging the club’s reputation.
In an open letter to Sally Bolton, the chief executive of the All England Club, the campaigners said: “Put simply, Barclays is financing and profiting from climate chaos, and accepting a sponsorship deal from them is an endorsement of these actions.”
Critics of the deal have accused the club of greenwashing. Campaigners said the bank had given more than $38bn (£30bn) to oil and gas companies, including Exxon Mobil, Shell and TotalEnergies, in the last two years.
Holy shit this is some heavy stuff for Wimbledon to deal with! And anti-Barclays deal advertisements are already hitting London tubes too. Just in time for all the supporters on their way to the grounds.
For the only major to use a naturally grown sustainable surface, it is a little ironic! 😅
SPOTTED ON THE TUBE!
Barclays is bankrolling climate collapse by pouring billions into dangerous fossil fuels... they should absolutely not be sponsoring the tennis.
@Wimbledon, when will you be dropping @Barclays?

Fed to be honoured 🙌👏🫶
On a lighter note, Roger Federer is set to be honoured in a Centre Court ceremony at Wimbledon. The 8-time champ and 20-time Grand Slam singles champion is to be honoured after his retirement "as the man holding the most gentlemen's singles titles here", according to chief executive Sally Bolton.
"We'll have a moment just to celebrate his achievements and to say thank you for all the memories," she added.
Seven-time women's champ Serena Williams, who also retired last year, had been invited too but the pregnant 41-year-old was unable to travel.
This will definitely be a fan favourite and treat for those with tickets on the day. Federer retired last year without getting a chance to say goodbye to the Slam he regarded as his fondest.
