Protesters on day 3, Tennis from the gods, Brooksby banned

Hey hey, the daily serve here. We’re the daily tennis newsletter that unlike at Wimbledon, still play on when the rain’s coming down.
Here’s what we’ve got in play for you today:
Confetti chaos on court 🎉
Tennis from the gods on court no.2 ✨🤩
Brooksby takes ban, no dope though 💊💉
Confetti chaos on court 🎉
This Wimbledon is shaping up to be the best ever! Day one we had 10 hour queues, rain and disrupted TV coverage, day two we had even more rain, day three we had 1000 matches to get through, more rain and protesters with jigsaws and confetti! We’re pretty sure the officials at Wimbledon must be like…

Yesterday, the one thing that Wimbledon did want to avoid, happened. Twice. Play was interrupted by ‘Just Stop Oil’ protesters on two occasions during the day. It seemed, the protest group had an issue with court 18, as they disrupted two matches in a little as a few hours.
The first incident happened while Grigor Dimitrov was making short work of Sho Shimabukuro (6-1, 6-2, 6-1) when a retired school teacher and musician ran on court, tossed orange confetti and a Wimbledon branded jigsaw everywhere, before sitting down sporting ‘Just Stop Oil’ T-shirts. The next match involved UK women’s no.1 Katie Boulter, where a retired engineer carried out the same stunt. All three protesters were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass and criminal damage before being put back on their bikes and banned from SW19.
Poor Wimbledon. For all their extra security and undercover police officers, they were foiled by a bunch of retirees 😂 . But considering the police in attendance we can see why…

Tennis from the gods on court no.2 ✨🤩
The first round match between 5th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and former US Open champ Dominic Thiem is already in the running for the match of the tournament. Tsitsipas, prevailed in a dramatic fashion winning a tight 5th set tiebreaker 10-8 after almost 4 hours on court.
The match had everything. Rain delay, overrule drama, girlfriends in the box, clutch volleys oh and don’t forget scorching one-handed winners from both players.
At one point, Tsitsipas who’s had poor form in the lead-up on grass by his standards, was in trouble at 3-3 in the final set, when Thiem, earned break point at 30/40. The Greek hit a ball that was called long, but overruled by the chair umpire. Thiem challenged unsuccessfully and Tsitsipas was able to battle through the game to hold serve.
Then Paula Badosa, fresh off her own win, came running to court-side to support her soulmate. That seemed to give Tsitsipas all the motivation he needed, helping him across the line in the end.
Both players were complementary of each other and seemed to agree that their matches bring out the best of them. Thiem also was looking at the loss as a positive saying: "This match showed me a lot of good things that I'm still here, still able to compete with the big boys of the game.”
Tsitsipas was already looking onto his next round match today against home favourite Andy Murray where he was “not expecting anyone's support".
Let’s hope Paula will be a little more animated for that match…

It’s really sweet to see how much they support each other.
Paula looks stressed though. 😂

Brooksby takes ban, no dope though 💊💉
Wondering where Jenson Brooksby is? Well he is far far far away from the grass courts and chaos of Wimbledon but still in his on chaos. The 22 year old has just accepted a provisional suspension from the International Tennis Integrity Agency on Wednesday after being accused of missing three doping tests in a 12-month period.
"Taking the provisional suspension is the best decision that we have to make right now," Brooksby, a 22-year-old from Sacramento, California, said in a telephone interview. "I've never failed a drug test. I've never taken any bad substances."
Under anti-doping rules, athletes can be penalised without a positive test if they have three "whereabout failures" within a year's span.
But where has he been? Brooksby hasn’t been seen on tour since his second round upset of Casper Ruud at the Australian Open. The American has been battling a wrist injury and then split with his childhood tennis coach. Personal issues and the “doping” issue have also kept him away.
He now plans to go to arbitration with the ITIA, which oversees doping cases in tennis to dispute the suspension. “I'm really just looking forward to being back on the court and the tour and putting all of it behind me."
We wish him luck.
Arbitrator: “How do you plead Mr. Brooksby?”
