🤱 Baby on board for Barty

Barty has a boy, Fed the main attraction, Dan Evans out

Hey hey, the daily serve here. We’re the daily tennis newsletter that is read by Goldilocks, because the amount of news is just right.

It’s whacky Wednesday at Wimbledon, and here’s what we’ve got for you today:

  • Baby on board for Barty 🤱

  • All eyes were on Fed…again 👀

  • Disappointed Dan to take a break 😮‍💨

Baby on board for Barty🤱

Former world no.1 and recently retired Ash Barty has had a baby boy - Hayden. It’s her first child with husband, golf professional Garry Kissick. The couple welcomed to the world their “beautiful boy” in a post on instagram.

But no time to rest for Barty if other players had their wish. Already, there are calls for her to return to the tour now she is a mum. It follows news of Wozniacki’s inspired decision to return to tour in the next month after have 2 children, as well as joining other returning greats who had children - Serena Williams, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka.

Both Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka, wished Barty well but also said they missed her and would love to see her back on tour. God knows why, as that would mean less Grand Slam success for them! 😅

When asked about the prospect of one day returning, Barty cryptically said "I'd say you never say never. I'd say the door is closed, but it's not padlocked.”

All we can say is Barty and Garry have a tough fight ahead on which sport their son will play! 🤪 🎾⛳️

All eyes were on Fed…again 👀

His tennis highness was all the focus on day 2 of another rain affected day at Wimbledon. Roger Federer was honoured with a spot in the royal box next to the Princess of Wales Kate Middleton yesterday, and with a day of little tennis, it was the highlight of the day.

While some Djokovic and Nadal fans grumbled over the reasons for another ceremony for the man, its hard to pass-up the impact he has still having after retirement. Although, he was honoured among other past champions last year, it seems only fitting that now after his retirement he can have a final send off to the tournament he owned for so long.

Andy Murray, was sure happy he was there supporting him for once (which made Alcaraz jealous), as the Brit won his first round match against compatriot Ryan Peniston in straight sets. Asked on centre court what he thought about his former rival watching from the stands, Murray quipped:

"Last time I was Centre Court with Roger Federer watching was during the 2012 Olympics and he sat in Stan Wawrinka’s box, he was supporting against me! Nice to see a couple of claps today [yesterday] after some good shots."

For Wimbledon, it was a nice distraction after a horror first day and more rain again holding up much of play. But TBH we’re surprised Fed had the time to come anyway, now that he is a member of Cold Play.

Disappointed Dan to take a break 😮‍💨

Dan Evans, the British no.2, is feeling a little disappointed after yet another poor performance at Wimbledon. Post the match, Evans’ decided that he needs a break from the game to clear his head and recharge.

During his first round match, Evans found himself down two sets and facing rain delays. It's like the universe was conspiring against him. Despite winning a set and briefly igniting hopes, his opponent, Quentin Halys, ultimately sealed the deal, ripping a forehand winner to put Evans out of his misery.

Reflecting on his underwhelming grass-court campaign, Evans acknowledged the need to spend time with family and friends, stepping away from the world of tennis and living a normal life for a while.

Can we blame him? After all, it's not easy to bounce back from a fifth first-round defeat at the tournament. Just whatever you do while you are away Dan, keep it clean 😅
